About the report
This paper was developed prior to the publication of the Government’s Creative Industries Sector Plan, which included the welcome announcement of a Freelance Champion. Along with many of our members, Creative UK has consistently called for the appointment of a Freelancers’ Commissioner, independently appointed and hosted by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS). This report outlines the potential impact of this role, drawing on comparisons with existing ‘commissioner’ roles, to demonstrate how a Freelance Champion could work across government departments to ensure the perspectives of freelancers are consistently embedded within policy decision making.
